Weaverville Roundabout Discussion Postponed

Traffic roundabouts aren’t an easy sell.

Supervisors in Trinity County yesterday made no decision regarding adding a roundabout to State Route 299 in Weaverville. By a 3-2 vote, discussion was punted to the April 19 meeting. Supervisors had been asked to approve nearly $400,000 for the project, though all of the money would come from Caltrans.

If eventually constructed, the roundabout would be at the intersection of 299 and Lance Gulch Road, by Tops Shopping Center. A traffic signal was another possible option. Although more expensive up front, roundabouts allow traffic to move faster, reduce accidents and are cheaper to maintain than signals.
