Anti-Trump protests are back in the North State on Saturday, Oct. 18. The rallies are part of the nationwide No Kings movement, which first drew millions to the streets in June.

Organizers say the demonstrations are to push back against what they call authoritarianism under the Trump administration.

Kate McCracken is with Defenders of Democracy, the coalition organizing the Chico rally. She says this weekend’s protest will likely be even bigger in the city than the one this summer, especially given the government shutdown.

“People just can't handle losing their health care,” McCracken said. “They're being laid off of federal jobs. They're not being paid for work they're doing.”

The protests are meant to be peaceful, McCracken said, and also a way for people to come together and take action.

“People feel the need to feel hope that we can change this country back to what it was. We love this country. We love America, and that's why we're taking to the streets,” McCracken said.

She encourages those participating to bring signs, water, friends and positive energy.

Nearly a dozen demonstrations will be happening in the North State, according to the ‘No Kings’ website‘.
