Hot weather will continue across the North State through Friday, May 22, with valley temperatures once again nearing 100 degrees.
But conditions are expected to become much more comfortable over Memorial Day weekend as daytime highs ease a bit.
Scott Rowe, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento, said the weekend weather should be ideal for outdoor recreation.
“Temperatures will actually cool by a few degrees back to closer to normal, maybe a few degrees above normal,” Rowe said.
Cooler temperatures won’t eliminate fire risk
Fire weather concerns could return early next week as breezy winds and drier conditions settle into the North State.
Rowe said it’s still too early to know whether conditions will become critical or just slightly elevated.
“We’re going to see those direct winds develop. We’re going to see relative humidities drop as well,” Rowe said.
Later next week, a system moving south from the Pacific Northwest could bring below-normal temperatures, along with a slight chance of showers in the mountains.
“More significant cooling is on tap,” Rowe said, “with temperatures back to the low 80s and maybe even upper 70s in some valley communities.”
