Hotter weather is coming to parts of the northern Sacramento Valley and foothills this weekend, with temperatures expected to linger into early next week.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory, with temperatures in some areas expected to reach 100 degrees.
The hot weather could also dry out vegetation and set the stage for increased fire risk if windy conditions develop.
“This event is going to dry us out and prime us for any potential wind events that take place in the future,” said Kate Forrest, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Right now, we're monitoring conditions and are noticing a lowering trend in the overall humidities as these high temperatures develop.”
The Weather Service is encouraging people to take steps to avoid heat-related illnesses, including drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces and limiting sun exposure and strenuous activity.
The heat advisory ends Wednesday morning.
