PG&E says about 7,400 customers were without power around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday in and around downtown Chico.

About 7,400 customers were without power in and around downtown Chico on Tuesday, according to PG&E.

The power outage hit about 3:59 p.m. and affected Chico State, North State Public Radio and many surrounding downtown businesses and traffic lights. An outage map showed the outage extended along Nord Avenue and the Avenues neighborhood.

“There is an unplanned outage in your area,” PG&E’s website said around 4:16 p.m. “Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on.”

PG&E said power was expected to be restored by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
