Chico State issued a campuswide email Friday alerting students and employees to unverified reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Chico.
University officials said they had no information indicating widespread enforcement activity, but issued the alert "out of an abundance of caution."
"As a reminder, CSU campuses and their police departments — including Chico State — do not assist immigration officials engaged in enforcement activities on our campus, including officials of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection," the email said.
The notice comes a day after Gov. Gavin Newsom responded to reports of increased immigration enforcement statewide.
"California will stand up for our communities and hold federal agents accountable," Newsom said in a social media post Thursday.
NSPR reached out to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security but did not receive an immediate response.
