Blue Dot's host Dave Schlom is joined by Canadian conservation biologist and marine bird expert Louise K. Blight to talk about her new book, Where The Earth Meets The Sky: A Story of Penguins, People, and Place in Antarctica.
An adjunct Professor at the University of Victoria's School of Environmental Studies, Blight recounts her early 2000s season of study spent studying Adelie penguins at Cape Royds on Ross Island in Antarctica. Camped near Ernest Shackleton's Hut that housed his expedition party in 1908, Blight and her research partner, lead researcher David Ainley, studied penguins for a research season while enduring the often harsh conditions in the polar region.
It's a fascinating story of place and the creatures that live there as well as the unique people who come to work in the austere but beautiful environment of Antarctica. A must listen for those who love exploration, nature and the iconic marine birds of this final frontier on planet Earth!
