Shasta County to hand-tally ballots after board vote

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors yesterday voted 3-2 to hand-count ballots to tally election results. This comes after the board decided to cancel its contract with electronic voting machine vendor Dominion earlier this year due to unfounded concerns over voter fraud.

Loan to rebuild Honey Run Covered Bridge denied by Butte County Board of Supervisors

The Butte County Board of Supervisors heard a request yesterday from the Honey Run Covered Bridge Association to borrow around $2.5 million to rebuild the iconic bridge. The board voted not to approve the loan by a 3-2 vote.

Wet winter to bring more mosquitoes over the summer

Experts say the wet winter will likely usher in a bumper crop of mosquitoes as the weather heats up. Pooling water from recent rains will form ideal conditions for breeding mosquitoes. Mosquito season typically runs from April through summer.
