North State schools at risk of losing federal funding | How sheriffs in the region plan to follow California's ICE raids rules | Chico Zine Fair this weekend

The latest North State and California news on our airwaves for Wednesday, Jan. 22.

In today’s episode:

The Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act has helped fund small and rural schools in areas with a lot of federal forest land for more than 100 years. Now, many schools in the North State could lose funding after the U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass the bill.

Also, most sheriffs in the North State say they are planning to follow state law when it comes to cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Plus, the Chico Zine Fair has been on pause for six years. This weekend, it’s coming back at Second Cousin in downtown Chico.

Ken came to NSPR through the back door as a volunteer, doing all the things that volunteers do. Almost nothing – nothing -- in his previous work experience suggests that he would ever be on public radio.
Anthony started his student internship with NSPR in October 2024. He is a freshman at Chico State University pursuing a Bachelor's degree in journalism.
