Firefighters light a backfire to stop the Dixie Fire from spreading near Prattville in Plumas County, Calif., on Friday, July 23, 2021.

The Dixie Fire continues to consume more acres in Plumas County. It’s claimed the town of Greenville, and it’s unclear how many other homes and businesses it’s destroyed.

In this special, we mourn the loss of Greenville and other communities devastated by this fire, like Indian Falls, Belden, and Rich Bar. We also look at the history of wildfires in our region and why we’re living with these types of fires in the North State.

The fire is threatening nearly 14,000 structures across Plumas, Butte and Lassen counties.
