Butte County registered voters are not showing enough support for a potential November library ballot measure.
That’s according to polling data from third-party contractors hired by Butte County.
The survey asked residents if the voters would be in favor of an annual $19 per parcel tax that would generate nearly $1.7 million for the county’s library system.
Fifty-one percent responded “yes” with a margin of error of 4%.
Support went up three points when residents were told that without the tax library funding could be significantly cut.
Still, the measure requires a two-thirds vote to pass.
The research and polling was part one of a two-phase approach. Next, the county will focus on educating the public on the matter.
