The Butte County Multicultural Showcase is happening in Oroville tomorrow. It’s an opportunity for people from different cultural backgrounds to come together to celebrate diversity and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of one another.

Tiffany McCarter is the executive director of the African American Family and Cultural Center, which is hosting the showcase.

“The hopelessness that we feel on a day-to-day basis, I’m just kind over that, as a whole we all are,” McCarter said. “And so what are we going to do to fight that? There’s no better cheer for these situations than to bring people together, hold each other up, love each other.”

The Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County, Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, Stonewall Alliance Center of Chico, and Oroville YMCA will co-host the event.

“We decided as a community that we kind of just want to bring people together,” McCarter said. “Everything nowadays is so divisive and so hate filled that we’re just going to try to push against that energy.”

The showcase will include ethnic food tastings, dancing, and an art show. Resources and service organizations will also be on-hand.

It will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oroville Convention Center at 1200 Myers St. downtown.
