The body of Wesley Cornett, a teenager who went missing in Thermalito Afterbay in mid-December, was found Sunday.
The news comes less than a week after his brother Andruw’s body was found. Officials with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office positively identified Wesley’s body today using DNA testing.
Wesley, 17, went missing with his brother Andruw, 19, during a duck hunting trip in Thermalito Afterbay on Dec. 14.
Andruw called 911 that day and told dispatch his brother’s kayak had capsized and that he was going into the water to try to rescue him. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue agencies from across the region had been searching for the brothers since that call.
According to the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Wesley’s body was found near the Highway 162 Bridge Sunday morning. A citizen walking on the west bank of the afterbay spotted the body in the water and alerted authorities.
Andruw’s body was recovered and identified on New Year’s Eve. Family and friends hosted a vigil Saturday, which would have been Andruw’s 20th birthday. A GoFund me was made by the boys’ mother to pay for burial costs.
