Blue Dot 226: YOUTUBE ADVENTURE WOMEN: Hikers Alice Ford and Jessica "Dixie" Mills

Host Dave talks to two of his favorite YouTube content providers, Alice Ford and Jessica Mills.

Alice is a stuntwoman based in Los Angeles who enjoys traveling, especially hiking and backpacking. Jessica, also known by her trail name, "Dixie," is one of the country's most accomplished through-hikers, having conquered the Appalachian, Pacific Crest, and Continental Divide Trails respectively as well as many other through hikes.

Both share lots of practical information on how to enjoy the out of doors safely and ethically and why doing long hikes might just be one of the healthiest all-around activities one can engage in.

In addition to their outdoor skills, both have become highly accomplished videographers whose cinematic photography takes their viewers along to some of the most beautiful and challenging places to explore from 14,000-foot peaks in the Rockies to the Camino de Santiago in Spain and Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.

Dave Schlom is the longtime host and creator of Blue Dot. From surfing to Voyager in interstellar space, rock guitar to orcas in our imperiled oceans, the topics on Blue Dot are as varied as the host’s interests and connections -- which are pretty limitless! An internationally respected space history journalist, Dave is also deeply fascinated by all aspects of the grand workings of nature’s awesome machinery on scales ranging from galactic to subatomic. And topics take in all aspects of the arts and sciences.
