Nancy's Bookshelf: Former university president Manuel A. Esteban pens his incredible journey of hardship and triumph

Dr. Esteban assumed the position of president of CSU, Chico in August 1993 until 2003. He began a teaching career at the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1973.

Esteban received his bachelor of arts degree in French in 1969 and his master's degree in Romance studies in 1970 from the University of Calgary. He received his Ph.D. in French from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1976.

His memoir, An Incredible Journey: From a Barcelona eighth grade dropout to an American University Presidency, details the author's inspirational journey to pursue educational dreams and reach unexpected heights. He also challenges he faced while he was president of Chico State University.

Nancy Wiegman has a master's degree in French linguistics from Indiana University and taught yoga and foreign languages at CSU Fresno and the College of Charleston before moving to Chico in 1990.
