Hay shortage is costing North State farmers

The price of hay used to feed livestock across the state is going up. Tania Dunlap, a horse rancher and owner of Spring Valley Ranch, says the cost of hay has nearly doubled since the beginning of 2021. She says it used to cost around $7,000 a month to feed her horses at the beginning of 2021, her hay purchases now cost nearly $13,000 a month.

West coast leaders sign climate agreement

The governors of California, Oregon and Washington and the premier of British Columbia met Thursday in San Francisco to sign a new climate partnership agreement. The goal is to create a low-carbon economy throughout the West Coast.

California to issue inflation relief checks

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said Thursday the state will begin issuing inflation relief payments today. Newsom and Democratic leaders in the legislature agreed back in June to send taxpayers the money to help offset record high inflation. To be eligible, you must have filed a 2020 tax return by last October and make less than $150,000.

Uber security chief convicted for concealing data breach

A San Francisco trial of Joe Sullivan, former security expert at Uber, found him guilty of actively concealing a felony. Sullivan paid hackers $100,000 in Bitcoin in ransom and hush money after they stole information about 57 million Uber users and 600,000 driver’s license numbers. It is unclear what happened to that data.
