North State delegation advocates for fire survivor tax relief

A delegation from California, including Paradise Town Council council member Steve Crowder, is in Washington D.C. this week lobbying for a bill that would provide federal tax exemptions for wildfire survivors. The bipartisan bill would allow for those who’ve been compensated by the Fire Victim Trust to not have to pay federal taxes on the settlement money.

Jesus Center’s Renewal Center on track to open in June

The Jesus Center plans to open a new building that will house unhoused families and seniors in June. Plans for the building, called the Renewal Center, include providing emergency shelter for up to 14 families, as well as units for elders experiencing homelessness.

Day of action for missing, murdered Indigenous people held at California Capitol

Native American tribes from across the state gathered at the state Capitol Tuesday for the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Day of Action. They're calling on lawmakers to support two new bills and a $200 million investment to prevent Indigenous women and girls from becoming missing and murdered.

Goldman Sachs surveys small businesses in California

A new Goldman Sachs poll of small-business owners finds more than half expect to create new jobs this year. The survey shows nearly 40% anticipate maintaining the same number of positions. Only 7% expect to cut jobs.

Adia White is a broadcast journalist and producer with nearly 10 years of experience. Her work has appeared on WNYC, This American Life, Capital Public Radio and other local and national programs. She started at North State Public Radio as a freelance reporter in 2017 before leaving for a stint at Northern California Public Media in Santa Rosa.
