Weekend Showcase

We talk with artist Michael Mulcahy about his exhibit "The Monday Funnies," coming to Chico's 1078 Gallery. Mulcahy's odd & entertaining collages combine cartoons, bad ad art and colorful shapes & patterns. We also talk with cast-members from Chico Theater Company's production of the classic musical "My Fair Lady."

We talk with the director & cast from the play "Amadeus" produced by Axiom Repertory Theatre in Redding. We also find out about the Healing Arts celebration at Chico's Enloe Cancer Center, presenting artwork & poetry by cancer survivors -- we hear from the event's coordinator, one of the artists & one of the poets.

We go to Chico's 1078 Gallery to talk with artist Kyle Campbell about the exhibit "Fortifying the American Dream" which displays Campell's cast iron sculptures made in the shapes of iconic objects of everyday America.  We also hear from the director & cast-members from the comedy-mystery "The Game's Afoot" at Redding's Riverfront Playhouse.

We visit the Chico Ceramics Center to talk with the owner and with the director as they celebrate the center's second year of helping artists turn clay into art. We also listen to songs from new original musicals on the Broadway stage and the silver screen.

This week our program becomes a New Year's party as we play musical-theater scenes and pop songs about New Year's Eve.  

Weekend Showcase celebrates the holiday season by playing musical-theater cast recordings and oddball novelty songs, all having to do with Christmas.

On 12/16 we talk with the director and with cast-members from the Blue Room Theatre's original adaptation of the Dickens clsssic "A Christmas Carol." We also talk with Vagabond Rose gallery owner Marilyn Souza about her 25 years of celebrating & supporting Chico-area artists.

We talk with the co-directors of "Animation Chico," a festival of funny, poignant & imaginative new short animated films from around the world. We also talk with artists who call themselves the Claymates -- creators of ceramic works that will be on display and on sale at their upcoming show.

This week we talk with the director and actors from the comedy "Ever Christmas Story Ever Told (And Then Some)" at Chico Theater Company. We also talk with the curator and one of the artists from the Chico Art Center's Winter Art Show & Sale which opens this weekend.

We talk with the choreographer and with the lead ballerina from "A Very Chico Christmas" coming up at CSU Chico's Laxson Auditorium. And we talk with several artists from the "Stories 5" exhibition at Chico's 1078 Gallery.
