Pacific Gas & Electric was charged Friday with manslaughter and other crimes after its equipment sparked a Northern California wildfire that killed four people and destroyed hundreds of homes last year, prosecutors said.
As of Friday morning, more than 25 buildings have been destroyed and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has issued mandatory evacuations for several areas north of the city of Redding.
The Dixie Fire tore through Greenville on Wednesday night, leaving much of the downtown area in flames. Fire crews battled 40 mph wind gusts to try to protect the town. As of Friday morning, the Dixie Fire had grown to more than 432,000 acres and was 35% contained.
